Napa PD to apply for US Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant

The Napa Police Department, on behalf of the City of Napa, is applying for a U.S. Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant (JAG) in the amount of $19,208. JAG funds can be used for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems for criminal justice. The 2016 JAG grant, if funded, will be used to purchase and implement the text-to-911 service, providing an alternative if a voice call to 911 might be difficult or impossible. This investment would enhance the City/County Law Enforcement capabilities and aid in providing efficiencies to help us better serve the community.

Per grant application requirements, applicants must provide an assurance that the application or any future amendment was made public and an opportunity to comment was provided to citizens and to neighborhood community organizations. Comments may be submitted in writing no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 13, 2016 to the attention of Joy Riesenberg by email or mail:

Napa Cops To Serve Breakfast to Support Special Olympics

Members of several Napa County law enforcement agencies plan a joint fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Northern California by holding a “Tip-A-Cop” event at the Napa Black Bear Diner later this week. This is part of the fundraising efforts by local law enforcement officers in preparation for the annual law enforcement torch run, and the Special Olympics of Northern California, which will be at the end of June, at UC Davis University.

Uniformed officers will team with regular wait staff to wait on tables. In addition to the tips customers leave their respective servers, a donation may be made to the Special Olympics; 100% of all “Tip-A-Cop” donations will go to help fund the needs of the Special Olympics. The event will take place on Friday, June 3, 2016, from 7:00 am to 11:00 am the Black Bear Diner located at 303 Soscol Avenue, in the City of Napa.

Special Olympics Northern California is a free year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 15,700 athletes compete in 154 competitions throughout the region in 12 sports.  This requires the extraordinary support and time of 14,370 volunteers and volunteer coaches. Financial support comes almost exclusively from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations.
